Help your garden wildlife this Autumn

This is a crucial time of year for your garden wildlife!

As snails and caterpillars start to look for protection from the colder months, food sources for mammals, amphibians and birds start to decline meaning that they spend an increased amount of calories looking for food to survive – just when they need them most. Hedgehogs who need fattening up before their winter hibernation, along with frogs, toads and garden birds all start to struggle at this time of year.

So why not give nature a hand? Here are some things that you can do in your garden this month and throughout the winter:

1. provide a home for a hedgehog! We stock both rustic wooden hedgehog houses and wicker dome homes as well as nutritionally balanced food specifically for hedgehogs. Place in a quiet part of the garden where it won’t be disturbed and leave out food just before dusk. Prices from £7.99.

3. plant your spring bulbs and help save the bee population! Did you know that bumble bees emerge from hibernation just hours away from starvation? They need a quick meal of nectar to survive so they can get busy pollinating! Bulb prices start from £3.99 and should be planted as soon as possible!
4. feed the birds! Such an important job at this time of year!
